The Number #1 Educator Diary is now available for Primary Teachers

Primary teachers juggle more than lesson planning — you’re constantly assessing, differentiating, supporting individual needs, communicating with families, and trying to capture evidence of learning in real time.

The Weekly Teacher Planning and Reflection Diary is a practical planning system designed for Australian primary school teachers (Foundation to Year 6) who want a clear weekly structure that supports curriculum alignment, evidence collection, and meaningful reflection — without creating extra paperwork.

This diary has been built using the Butler Method approach, shaped by real teacher feedback, and designed to support a weekly teaching loop:

Plan → Teach → Capture Evidence → Reflect → Adjust

Why teachers love weekly planning (when it’s built properly)

A weekly diary is only useful if it helps you do the work faster, not add more to your list.

This diary supports you to:

  • map your curriculum focus across the week

  • write learning intentions and success criteria clearly

  • plan evidence collection before you start teaching

  • record adjustments and support plans without extra forms

  • reflect on what worked and what needs follow-up

  • plan forward with confidence

What makes this Teacher Diary different

This isn’t a generic teacher planner.

It’s designed to support:

  • Australian Curriculum planning (and flexible enough for state-based syllabuses)

  • evidence-based teaching

  • differentiation and adjustments

  • teacher reflection that actually leads to improved weeks

  • a structured, repeatable planning habit (so it’s easier to stay consistent)

What’s included

  • Weekly planning layout with curriculum planning boxes, including cross-curriculum priorities
  • Weekly overview planning for learning intentions, support plans, evidence, meetings, and key notes

  • Weekly reflection spread to support planning, family communication, adjustments, and student focus

  • Front reference pages for quick review and overview records to support the year

Who this Teacher Diary is for

This diary is ideal for:

  • Foundation to Year 6 classroom teachers

  • Graduate teachers (who want a structure that keeps planning evidence-ready)

  • Teachers managing differentiation and adjustments across diverse learners

  • Stage/grade leaders planning with their team

  • Relief planning support and teacher's aides

How to use it (quick guide)

  1. Complete the Weekly Planning Strip first
This creates clarity around learning intention, success criteria, evidence, and support needs.

  2. Fill in daily boxes as needed
You don’t need to complete every box every day — only what applies to your week.

  3. Record curriculum links/outcomes
Use the bottom line in each box to write your relevant curriculum code or syllabus outcome (or any other reference that supports you).

  4. Reflect weekly
Use the reflection prompts to capture what worked and what needs adjusting before next week begins.

FAQ

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions

The Butler Method is a practical planning and documentation system designed to help teachers stay organised, reduce overwhelm, and keep all key information in one consistent place — without adding extra paperwork.

Rather than relying on scattered notes, last-minute catch-ups, or complicated templates, the Butler Method supports a simple habit:

plan with intention, document as you go, reflect briefly, and adjust your next steps.

In the context of the Weekly Teacher Planning and Reflection Diary, the Butler Method is built around a weekly teaching loop:

Plan → Teach → Capture Evidence → Reflect → Adjust

This approach helps teachers:

  • plan curriculum clearly (with learning intentions and success criteria)
  • collect evidence while teaching (not after hours)
  • track support plans, adjustments and student follow-up consistently
  • reflect on what worked and what needs reteaching or extension
  • feel confident that planning and assessment are aligned

The goal of the Butler Method is simple:

to make teaching documentation manageable, meaningful, and sustainable — in real classroom conditions.

Yes. While the diary is structured around key learning areas aligned to the Australian Curriculum, it is designed to be flexible and meet the requirements for state-based syllabuses. Teachers can record curriculum links using the format their school requires — including NESA outcomes (NSW), SCSA WA Curriculum links (WA), or Victorian Curriculum levels (VIC) and their planning will be aligned with the core teachings across the curriculum and syllabuses.

No. Curriculum codes can be helpful, but they are not required in every school. The diary includes a Curriculum Links line so you can record what your school expects — whether that is a curriculum code, a syllabus outcome, a curriculum description, unit/program reference, or nothing at all if not needed. The Diary is there to support your planning in a way that works for you, adjust and use it as needed.

The diary is designed to make assessment easier by building evidence collection into your weekly plan. Each weekly spread includes prompts for learning intentions, success criteria, and evidence to collect, so you can capture assessment information as you teach. Reflection prompts also support follow-up, reteaching, extension and reporting readiness.

Yes. The layout is flexible and can be adapted to different roles and teaching contexts. It is suitable for all Australian-based primary teachers, including:

  • Composite/multi-age classes: use curriculum link lines (or other note) to record the relevant level/year references and use support planning to track differentiated focus groups.
  • Specialist teachers (e.g. PE, Arts, STEM, Languages): use the learning area boxes you need and adapt others as required.
  • Teacher aides/support staff: use the reflection and support planning sections to record group focus, student notes, adjustments used, and follow-up actions.
