Introducing the Sit Up Champion Program Cards!
The 'Sitting Strong' resource is designed to encourage children to enjoy longer periods of independent sitting while simultaneously stimulating their rapidly developing brains. As children often become frustrated with their limited mobility or inability to reach objects, these activities provide not only entertainment but also valuable lessons in fine and gross motor skills, language development, cause-and-effect relationships, tactile discrimination, and more.
Recommended for children aged between 6-12 months, these activities are meant to be conducted under adult supervision to ensure both safety and optimal learning experiences.
By focusing on the milestone of sitting unassisted and encouraging extended periods of independent sitting, these cards support EYLF Outcome 1, which emphasises the development of a strong sense of identity in children. It helps children gain confidence and a sense of accomplishment in their abilities. EYLF Outcome 4 is promoted by enhancing children's learning experiences and supporting them in becoming confident and involved learners. The activities provided in this resource not only entertain but also facilitate the development of a wide range of skills, including fine and gross motor skills, language skills, and problem-solving abilities. These cards focus on EYLF Principle 1 by fostering secure, respectful, and reciprocal relationships between children and educators, as adults guide and supervise these enriching activities. 'Sitting Strong' is a valuable resource that contributes to holistic child development while aligning perfectly with the EYLF's core principles and outcomes, ensuring that early childhood education is engaging, supportive, and focused on the well-being of young learners.
